ADCN Lamps for analogue minds?

April 16, 2009, AAB

From a creative perspective, the ADCN Lamps are the most desirable awards; they represent the BIG ideas – nothing else. So it makes you wonder why this year only 2 Silver Lamps went to the category ‘interactive’ (Selmore/Achtung! and Skipintro); mainly traditional advertising gets awarded! And when you compare the Lamps with the (interactive) Spin Awards, it is striking that only two creative concepts won both awards; Upload Cinema (Lowe/Draftfcb) and Fortheloveofgod.nl (Skipintro). Does this mean that most big-idea creatives don’t have a digital mind? Or does it mean that digital creatives don’t come up with big ideas?

It seems like your ADCN (still) has an analogue mind…

  • Jamal says:

In my opinion it has to do with the fact that interactive campaigns are often technically driven and focused on digital conversion. This reduces the room outside the box.

It’s a matter of time, the good ‘traditional’ agencies (which are not traditional at all) will have more and more ‘digital’ ideas. The digital agencies will just execute them.

It’s a bit of both, really. At the Spin Awards (and even at the Cyber Lions) originality and creativty are not the only criteria. So one can expect a different outcome.

On top of that there is a different notion of what is creative. Having said that, I am not sure what these 2 ADCN lamps prove at all.
