Skoda Yeti Night Catch

June 10, 2011, AAB

Yet another car activation by Achtung! for Pon, the biggest Dutch Volkswagen (group) distributor in the Netherlands. This time for the Skoda Yeti. The concept, dubbed ‘Yeti Night Catch‘ resembles Achtung!’s successful ‘Catch the Polo’ from 2009, since the consumer has to catch a moving Yeti. The difference though is that the Yeti is not driven by a consumer, but moved secretly overnight to a new location. The consumer can follow the Yeti’s route on Google Maps and set a trap along its (predicted) route. Every time you catch it, you earn points and the overall winner wins a trip to South Africa. South Africa?! Doesn’t the legendary Yeti live in the Himalaya? Mmm. Maybe it’s a global warming thing.

    What does ‘Vang de Yeti END ga naar Zuid-Afrika’ mean?
    Is it just an old fashioned typing error, that extra D, or am I missing some kind of word joke here?

  • AAB says:

    This is a painful typo. It’s funny, the other day we heard Dick Buschman of Achtung! say (@Reclameridders in Studio K) that he had a hard time finding good copywriters. Et voila. Recently we also found a TomTom website with a typo. This might indicate that the good copywriters still work at the traditional agencies.

    Na… don’t think so.

  • Jurgen says:

    So, if a good copywriter doesn’t write copy for Achtung or TomTom (or similar digital shit like that), he or she is working for a ‘traditional agency’? God, I hate that term!

  • AAB says:

    @Jurgen
    We understand you hate the term, but ‘traditional’ is being used here primarily in a practical way; namely to address agencies that are not state of the art digital agencies. The division is not as black and white as it suggests.
