Just like last year Amsterdam based Circus Family was asked by Wanted Design to create a light installation for the New York Design Week. This year it built “Day & Night”, consisting of 48 vertical LED tubes that interacted, by changing colours, with the visitors of the design week – during the day – and the DJ’s music – at night.
For the techies: the installation was built with 48 tubes, 3072 LED light pixels, 4 Kinect depth cameras, 24 vibration sensors, and 3 laptops running custom processing scripts. The cameras could track the position of the visitors, which was converted into a grid and then acted as a musical sequencer. At night the tubes interacted with the DJ’s music. The tubes also had built-in vibration sensors so that they could change when touched.
Here you can watch the experience.
